Kate Worthington
From a very early age, Kate has been exploring, walking and scrambling in the UK mountains – developing a detailed knowledge of our beautiful National Parks and wild spaces. Qualified as a Mountain Leader, Winter Mountain Leader and Fell/Trail Leader in Running Fitness, Kate has focused on becoming an experienced and confident outdoor leader, trainer and event organiser. She has also followed an interest in dealing with unplanned incidents, gaining a Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician certification.
With experience of working with groups of all sizes – including corporate clients, charity fundraising events and youth expedition groups, Kate enjoys the challenge of meeting new individuals and helping them to access the outdoors safely... and smiles, learning and support are definitely on the kit list!
Kate now focuses on working with individuals and small groups in technical, mountainous environments; sharing skills and helping others to develop confidence when walking and running in new terrain. As long as she can move safely, Kate is happy and experienced in all mountain weathers – but the strongest winds are always the leveller!
Over the last 15 years, Kate has taken her love of running on to high ground and enjoys the freedom of running in mountainous terrain, using her skills and experience to enjoy fell and mountain running with others, and for herself.
Since moving to Eryri, she has enjoyed running in numerous local fell races, including the International Snowdon Race, Snowdonia Trail Marathon, Marathon Eryri and Ultra Trail Wales. Kate finally realised a long-awaited goal of entering a 6 day mountain ultra, the Dragon's Back Race®, and made her way to very near the end of Day 5 – having met all the time cut offs on previous days – until a leg injury prompted her decision to retire from Pen y Fan. She realised latterly, that this journey was also completion of the Welsh 3 Peaks, on foot, from Conwy on the north coast to Pen y Fan. Kate will take that for now, and work towards another edition of this infamous mountain running race in the future...
As well as enjoying running over high mountains, Kate will easily embrace ‘high altitude baby steps’ when required, from her experience at altitude in Borneo, Peru, the Himalaya, Tanzania, Morocco and the French Alps.
